University Life

Are there a lot of international students?

Currently 26% of ANU students are from overseas. So there is no limit to the diversity on campus. ANU has a large intake of students from Asia and the Pacific, including China, Singapore, Korea, and India. ANU has a growing number of students from Europe and North America.

Are the dorms new?

The ANU has been creating student accommodation on or near campus for over 60 years, with the newest rooms as little as 2 years old. With constant refurbishments being undertaken we have a range of facilities available which will suit your needs. Have a look here for a breakdown of cost and services available.

How is the internet on campus?

ANU Secure is the platform from which all ANU staff and students can access secure wireless internet across the campus. Almost all operating systems function on the platform with download speed varying during on-peak and off-peak times.

What is campus life like?

ANU is consistently ranked by students as exceptional for its student experience. The ANU Fund supports initiatives for the ANU community which foster the University’s role as a cultural and intellectual hub for Canberra, the ACT and the nation.

From community-based projects to student societies, cultural events on campus and environmental initiatives; ANU is not only developing the brightest minds in the nation, it is creating the best citizens for the world.

Are there sports teams?

Really, what would student life in Australia be without enjoying sports? ANU offers membership in a HUGE range of sports clubs for first-timers up to seasoned competitors.

Be it Rugby (Union or League), Tennis, Cricket, Basketball or even Quidditch, you will find everything available at the ANU Sport website.

You will also be able to enjoy the local football and cricket competitions as Canberra has a number of national competing teams play at home. Have a look at Rugby, Cricket and League website for information on what you might be able to see.

Are there fraternities and/or Sororities?  Are the clubs/social groups?

While the ANU (and Australia at large) does not have fraternities or sororities, there are social clubs and groups anyone can join. Have a look at the ANU Student Association website for information on available clubs and how to join.
